Much has happened, and much is happening.
I’ve taken over a second-story flat in a two-family Victorian in the Nob Hill neighborhood of northwest Portland. I like it here. The course I charted in Marina, Croatia nearly a year ago has reached a state of completion in Portland, Oregon. I am planting my flag, and planning new adventures here and abroad.
I’ve been reading a lot lately. I haven’t pushed myself to work on my books as much for the last month or so. A necessary respite. It’s been wonderful absorbing and analyzing literary voices other than my own. I’ll let you know in detail about what I’m reading in other posts.
I had what looked to be a good writing gig with a new Portland food magazine. I even wrote an 1800-word feature for them. The publication folded before publishing the first issue. I am still owed a substantial kill fee. Clowns.
I’m cooking, of course. In a restaurant and at home. I have access to so many good ingredients within walking distance of home. The shopping in Nob Hill is really quite stellar. I can buy fresh octopus five blocks away.
I’m beginning to record music again, and to plot a small home studio configuration for the spare attic room. For my neighbors who may be reading this, it will be a quiet studio. No drums. No loud guitar amplifiers.
Things have normalized. I’m happy and healthy. I have a comfortable home again. Bliss is mine. What to do next? I think I’d like to have a small dinner party soon.
The computer is also back, so perhaps I’ll begin putting more at this blog and the others again.
